Hi all! I’m not seeing any new info related to what will happen/is happening with respect to Brother printers (mine is MFC-7360N) that require 32-bit drivers from brother. Is there a known workaround or some ‘compatibility layer’ tool that’s needed or. . .? Thanks - - robert
@robhwill the applicable package to install is listed here https://doc.opensuse.org/release-notes/x86_64/openSUSE/Leap/16.0/html/release-notes-leap-160/index.html#id-steam
- 32-bit execution requires installing grub2-compat-ia32 and rebooting."
Thanks @malcolm for the reassurance. I glanced over that while reading because it was in the section marked ‘Steam’ and it specifically referenced grub2. Nice to know it applies system-wide!
Thanks Again! OBTW: What are we coming to? 35 pages for Release Notes. . . wow!

Beginning with my current 15.6 installation, I’ve had no 32bit anything installed. My Brother HL5470DW laser and MFC8910DW all-in-one are connected via ethernet and using the “driverless” drivers for printing and scanning, no need I’m aware of any more for Brother’s own downloadables.

Driverless printing is only supported by more recent models. The MFC-7360N, released around 2011, does not support this feature.
Hi!
My old Brother DCP-7065DN(network connected by wired Ethernet). Got it working with old 32-bit deprecated drivers (installing grub2-compat-ia32 and… ). Even the scanner function works(tested Xsane).
Tested on a new 16.0 installation without 32-bit, installed “printer-driver-brlaser” and the printer part working but not scanning part. Have some problems with dual side printing. Unnecessary complicated to set up printer/scanner in several different places.
My HP Office Jet pro 9730E (HP-lip, Wi-Fi)works almost as expected and with little differences against to 15.6.
Regards
just to be sure, did you try to install sane-airscan and see if your Scanner gets automatically detected (you would still need to let through mdns through the firewall)
Hi!
Searching in 16 for package sane-airscan. Not result. . Turned off Firewall. Not result. To old HW.
Tried to install trow local rpm repo., Regards

You need to verify your repos.
Workin with scanning my HP A3-color Officejet pro 9730E. Not older Brother. Sometimes I can get photos and print on glossy paper and chose tray . No I will not give up on Leap 16. Scanning 10X14 and 35 photos by ADF… A marvel.
Regards
Maybe you can get 64 bit drivers here:
https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=de&lang=de&prod=mfc7360n_all&os=127&flang=English
Thanks. A lot. I have receive from… No need to install 32-bit support (it’s working). For my Brother DCP-7065DN on new install (16,0) “printer-driver-brlaser” and “brscan4-0.4.10-1.x86_64.rpm” usual:
$ brsaneconfig4 -a name=SCANNER model=MFC-7065N ip=192.168.0.11

I used the Brother-suppled driver install tool (earlier version) for my wife’s MFC-7360N on her 15.6 system. Go to Downloads | MFC-7360N | United States | Brother
Go down to What’s New, under Driver Install Tool, click on Linux (rpm). On the next page, under Utilities, click on Driver Install Tool. Agree to the EULA, and download the linux-brprinter-installer-2.2.6-0.gz file. Instructions for use will appear on this page. They reference the earlier version of the tool, but are they are the same for this version.
[Solved]! OK . Please know that I was only trying to find in advance if there might be
problems when updating to Leap 16.0. Thanks for all advice, insights. Take Care
