Boot screen only shows opensuse

I had to rebuild my openSUSE system due to a bad error. The new splash screen is so barren it looks like an error screen. Even worse, it only shows openSUSE and doesn’t show the other two distros on my PC.

Is there a way to get Grub2 to show the other two systems? It is extremely inconvenient to go into the BIOS.

You are mixing different tools and topics.

You mean for sure the bootloader screen. The splash screen is something completely different.

The new standard bootloader for Tumbleweed is systemd-boot. It looks different from the old grub2 (grub2-efi) as it is more terminal like. systemd-boot is intended to be more slim and lightwight over grub2-efi and thus comes without fancy graphics and background images.

For multiboot have a look at the Arch wiki. Chapter 4.2
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Systemd-boot

Thank you for responding so quickly.

I was surprised when i used the new bootloader was that it was an error message. Now I know better.

My interpretation of the article was that unless opensuse implements it, I will have to switch systems from the BIOS as they use grub2 and don’t recognize opensuse.

Do you agree?

I have Hyprland and MacOS on a MacBook Pro, systemd-boot had no issues showing both Operating Systems. I did use the Agama Installer though.

I am pretty much ignorant about how to do this.

Will the agama installer work on opensuse? How do I set this up? Do i need to so it with every kernel update?

Yes, there are Agama installers for Leap series and a newer version for Tumbleweed/Slowroll and MicroOS.

https://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/appliances/iso/

Once I check the sha256 sum, then I add a Installer password;

# replace the agama.iso name with your image name
tagmedia --add-tag "live_password=$((openssl passwd -6) | base64 -w 0)" agama.iso

Ref: https://agama-project.github.io/docs/devel/live_iso#injecting-the-default-password-into-the-iso-image

Then dd the image onto a USB device…

I’m not sure that’s a path I want to take.

My application is doing user stuff and occasionally fooling around with other distros.

So can you confirm the other operating systems are seen via running as root user the os-prober command? Also what boot mechanism via update-bootloader --show

Likewise, do you have a reasonable size for /boot/efi, perhaps show the output from lsblk -f

Here’s the information you asked for. Sorry it took so long.

So a few invalid ones that can probably be deleted…?

Since it’s showing with os-prober, it should add them… I would force the re-install of systemd-boot and in theory should detect and add… In theory

Are you suggesting I uninstall systemd-boot and reinstall it?

Just reinstall with zypper in -f systemd-boot

I did as you asked. Results are about the same.

I only see two other operating systems, but you have lots of nvram entries?

On my systemd dual boot I have two operating systems and two ESP’s, I wonder if that is the difference…
