Boot cd does not startup on Medion Medion AKOYA

Dear forum members,

I have got a medion akoya e5310 d and I would like to install a suse partition.

I downloaded the live CD and burnt the image on a CD.

When booting from the CD I get to the boot menu, then, regardless of whether I choose suse 11.1 or failsafe configuration, the boot-up process ends with a linux prompt. Then I am stuck.

The last messages on the screen are:

/etc/init.d/smartd: Line 180: 3438 Aborted $SMARTD_BIN $smartd_opts

Master resource control: runlevel 5 has been reached
Skipped services in runlevel 5: nfs acpid irq balancer

From that point on the login prompt appears. The installation interface never starts up.

Thanks in advance for your kind help

Alexander

Just one precision: I am using the 64 bit KDE installation cd.

Thanks

Alexander

Ok I don’t give up. In another thread I read to start x (startx). When doing this at the prompt, I get plenty of error messages concerning the radeon (my PC has a radeon series 3400). It says things like “no tick from the ATOM ?!”

Do you have any ideas what else I could try ? Would the DVD support more graphichs interfaces ? Should I tempt a network based installation ?

Thanks in advance

Alexander

Hello Alexander,

What type of processor does your Medion AKOYA have and at what time, after
which events, do you get the prompt?

I think you have to install from the 32 bits PC version - x86 computers

Frans

Thanks for trying Frans, the Medion AKOYA runs on the Phenom X3, an AMD 64 bit triple core.

At the end I downloaded the installation DVD for 64 bit (which was a bit lenthgy).

With the DVD the installation ran very smoothly and I got the system set up in less than half an hour.

I am very pleased and happy to have suse 11.1 now running on this fast PC.

I can only recommend to anyone who encounters installation issues with the live CD to use the DVD for setting up the system.

It is really well done.

Cheers

Alexander

I had a similar problem with the [unsupported] 11.1 LiveCD w/KD3 3.5. It booted to the login prompt. I signed on as root but could not get is to complete installation or start X. After restarting it was okay and installed normally.
