My headset and dongle worked on my Windose box. I move them to my newly installed/updated OpenSUSE. I plugged in the dongle, then turned on headset, … “connected” … yay! … But I can’t get anything to play out of the headset. It comes out the speakers only. I tried:
futzing around with the mixer
changing master device
rebooting
changing the order of the audio devices
searching the forum
switching from “headset” to “audio sync”
…?
OpenSUSE 12.1 32-bit KDE
What do I need to do to switch the sound from the speakers to the connected bluetooth headset?
Or, what info do you need me to look up about my system?

I don’t know KDE, but on GNOME you have to configure the sound device
settings to send the output to the desired device - I’m sure there’s
something similar in KDE.

AAAAAAAAAAAAaaaah. My trouble was VLC. After you nudged me I looked in
Start > Applications > Configure Desktop > Hardware > Multimedia > Phonon > Audio Playback > Music
I set the Bluetooth to prefered.
VLC still played through speakers.
I tried playing a song, and it came through the headset!!
back to Phonon
clicked on Music again, headset was still at the top.
down at the bottom, “Apply Device List To…”
I think VLC must use the ‘default’
this fixed it
VLC now plays through the headset
YAY
thanks Jim

I had a fit trying to get a Bose bluetooth speaker to work with OpenSUSE 12.2 until I found this thread which pointed me in the right direction and I got it working in Phonon with:
[size=2]
Phonon > Audio Hardware Setup > Select bluetooth audio device as Sound Card > Select profile other than “off” (I used Analog Stereo Duplex).
