when I attempted to run blender the other evening, it didn’t start. Running from the command line yielded:
> blender > blender: symbol lookup error: /lib64/libOpenImageIO/so.3.0: undefined symbol:_ZTIN7Imf_3_414TypedAttributeIN9Imath_3_18Matrix44IdEEEE
libOpenImageIO3_0 and its companion libOpenImageIO_Utils3_0 were installed on my system, but the version number in YaST appeared in red text; when I check here, it clearly states “There is no official package available for ALL Distributions”
I ran sudo zypper remove --clean-deps blender
but when I attempt to re-install blender, the following occurs:
> sudo zypper in --dry-run blender > Problem 1: nothing provides 'libImath-3_1.so.29()(64bit)' needed by the to be installed blender-4.5.3-1.2.x86_64
I’m tinkering with Slowroll as I hope for it to become my next daily driver. However, I ran into this exact issue too. I suppose it’s not a big deal, because Blender still runs fine with their own packaged .tar.zx v4.5.3 LTS version from their official site - Download — Blender.
However, as I understand, Slowroll will be locked it with this broken version for a month? If so, I really hate to say it, but it’s kind of an L for Slowroll and it’s main purpose
Yeah, for now I have switched over to the Blender.org download version and it works.
It must be quite the task to keep track of which older libraries can be safely retired; if there’s some way I could be proactively useful instead of complaining after something breaks, I’d love to hear about it!
