Black screen with cursor after sleep on X11

Hi, I’m running Leap 15.6 with KDE, when the system wakes from screen I get only a black screen with a cursor

I’ve read other topics on the matter, but I haven’t found a solution:

  • I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti:
    • Installed NVIDIA drivers
    • nvidia-suspend nvidia-hibernate nvidia-resume are ok in systemctl
    • kernel parameters are preempt=full security=apparmor rd.driver.blacklist=nouveau
  • Only happens on X11, but can’t use Wayland due to other issues such as this
  • On the black screen I can only move the cursor, inserting the password does not work. I can switch to another TTY and even start another desktop session (but not unlock the “black screen” one)
  • Also happens with a new user
  • Full KDE Plasma 5 pattern installed
  • journalctl pastebin here

What else could I try?

Use 550 driver.

See here for similar issue & how to roll back to 550 driver as suggested in other post on here: https://forums.opensuse.org/t/black-screen-after-wake-from-sleep/182944

In addition to staying with the NVIDIA version 550 drivers, have you tried using Plasma 6 Wayland? It comes with many improvements and bug fixes compared to Plasma 5."

  • @deano_ferrari meanwhile I had tried Plasma 6 (and I’m using it now), here Wayland worked but the sleep issue appeared with both X11 and Wayland
  • @Svyatko upgraded to 570.124.04 on Plasma 6, still the same issue
  • jjis rolling back to 550 worked on Plasma 6

Just in case the advice in this Manjaro topic is helpful to your situation…
