New here. Just trying to add my 2 cents: I installed in my case nvidia-open-driver-G07-cuda-kmp-longterm, and I was able to boot with any problems using the longterm 6.18.26 kernel. 6.19 kernel with new drivers backed to my cpu-based gpu (amd), and 7.0.3 kernel was failing as black screen.

Thanks NoVeXX the grub params are useful to know but unfortunately didn’t fix the issue for me. I think for the RTX 4090 you might want to be on the more recent G07 drivers. Although if so, probably hold off on that until this issue is resolved.
I noticed that before and did try the cuda version with no success. Fwiw.

if your screen ist not on your DP2 the grub command does nothing.
Also ehn u use G07 it overwrites the grub command upon loading.
I am on G06 and it works fine for me.
May this be how it will, switching to any resolution @ 60Hz Still Obliterated the whole issue for me. however it is still annoying to switch back modes everytime I log in. oh well.

Using G07 since 595.58.03 got available on tumbleweed. Until kernel-default got updated to 7.0.1 I had no issues. 595.58.03 on 6.19.12 kernel works well. Now I’m running 595.71.05 and kernel-longterm and haven’t found any issues either. Those are packages and versions I’m running:

Please instead of yelling “G07 IS TOO NEW AND BROKEN!!!” post what versions you’re using (zypper se -si nvidia kernel-default kernel-longterm) and describe symptoms of issue you’re having. Yelling at clouds won’t help solving it.

try playing games via Wine on G07. RE kernel 6.19: is it even possible to install it?? kernel-default has 7.0.x, kernel-longterm has 6.18.
So it works? Do you think we can upgrade to 7.0.3 now? Use kernel-default or kernel-longterm? May be it does make sense to completely remove nvidia-driver-G06-kmp-default first?
P.S. Ah you are still on 6.18.26-1.1 kernel. I’m on 6.19.12. I see so G07 works fine with longterm kernel. May be it does make sense to switch to this kernel to avoid sich problems in future. Strange all work with 7.0 kernel and 595.71.05 nvidia driver in Ubuntu.
I’m using steam and running cyperpunk on G07 with the longterm kernel. Working nicely. Again fwiw.

Nvidia users probably should switch distributions. Both Leap and Tumbleweed have serious problems with nvidia cards. I couldn’t even install both of them a few months ago. Why does Nvidia team maintain nvidia packages for open SUSE? The distribution should maintain them.

why is it nonsense? if a PC does not boot at all. It means the maintainers don’t even test. It is time to switch distros.

7.0.3 is kernel-default and does not work (for me at least). kernel-longterm version 6.18.26 tested and works (for me again). I’m primarily testing with G07 but G06 should work as well.
Be the first leaving. Experinced users will stay here and try to find a solution. Running away when a small issue arises is a beginner move…
Good luck with other distributions, as they for sure never ever have any issues.
I’m not using plain Wine but I am running Steam games (using flatpak Steam) using Steam’s Proton 11 on G07. About 75 FPS in MSFS 2024. Does not look like an issue to me, since MSFS 2024 is not that well optimised to begin with.
It always happen with SUSE for some reason along with major kernel version upgrade - magic! Why they can’t better test this?
@nazarii-kretovych et al, I’m sure the openSUSE Nvidia Maintainers will be thrilled for users to purchase duplicates of your hardware setups and send to them for testing
