Maybe: “Workaround for graphics card problems during install”
Or perhaps even remove the first two words of that.
That’s an attempt to avoid the words “nomodeset”, “foil” and “obstacle” in the title.
The trouble with “nomodeset” is that it will be unfamiliar for many people who need it. The trouble with “foil” and “obstacle” is that they will be unfamiliar words that people who are not native English speakers, and will thus be an obstacle for them.
It isn’t important to sound sophisticated or highly literate. What’s important is communicating.
I have a strong dislike for the word “problems” within subject lines in contexts asking for or providing help. Problems are the reason why help is sought, so assumed. Addressing problem or problems is assumed by an SDB page. To me, problems is a wasted word in a context where concision is seriously important.
The fundamental subject the page addresses is nomodeset usage: non-use where needed, and mis-use, so IMO the subject line demands nomodeset be in results of searches limited to or focusing on subject lines, if not otherwise. Consequently I’ve changed the WIP’s subject line yet again. WDYT?
Anyone care to peek and see if any of my formatting changes were poorly selected?
22 hours ago I emailed Christian, Neil & Gerry (in part) why the double title remains:
I still have a /problem/ with the inconsistency with the nomodeset theme of the article content by not having the title first word TT’d "modeset: "; without an explicit title using ==heading 1== enabling it. Maybe this page is an exception where redundancy isn’t such a bad thing, dis-confusing the wiki software’s upper casing limitation.
Maybe others have an opinion about this?
Strange, I never got that e-mail, but I did see Christian’s reply to it a few minutes ago, and your short discussion with him.
As for opinions:
Other opinions are okay, but it is your page, so just be confidant in your own tastes, I would say. If anything is outrageously off-standard, someone can always edit the page if they wish.
I like what you are doing, and I am happy watching you make the decisions on how it should look.
Neil’s could have been black-holed in the battle between earthlink.net and yahoo.com to see which can cause the most false positives in their anti-spam battles.
