Black screen after updating Nvidia drivers to 570.86.16

After updating OpenSUSE Tumbleweed with zypper dup command, the drivers were also updated from version 550 to 570. After restarting PC and authenticating, I get a black screen (X11 and Wayland), only IceWM works. Please tell me how to solve this. Thanks in advance

Okay, I’ll just downgrade the drivers to 550

Hi.

Experienced this too when I upgraded to 570.86.16. In my case, it’s the intel graphics that doesn’t work. Everything’s being routed to NVIDIA. Can’t use my dual monitor setup…

Rolled back via snapper to 550…

Any advice on this?

I have not solved it, I too am using the same NVIDIA driver. I get a blank screen after sleep. I have found, although not ideal, to use ctl-alt-del to get me back to the KDE login screen.
I have looked around the internet, although not found much, others are having similar issues, on other distros as well.

There are some GPU which are NOT supported by the 570.x driver.
In my laptop there is a “GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Mobile”.
Only the 550.x driver is suitable for this.

Unfortunately 550.x driver is not available from the package repository.

Well, it is still a beta driver so it might have some problem but the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Mobile is listed as supported:
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/240524/

@LittleWhite I see you rolled back, but were you sure a) the driver build for the 6.13.1 kernel and b) your system booted to that kernel?

Please check again. The GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Mobile is fully supported by the v570 driver. This can be easily seen on the Nvidia driver page. And i have one running here on an Optimus machine with the v570 driver…

@hui just use inxi it should automatically use the Nvidia GPU without switcherooctl. Likewise applications should be taking advantage of the Nvidia driver as compute and/or graphics and compute. Well it does on GNOME

That is apparently a quirk in inxi: the same shows here, but vulkan on nvidia works.

Yes, that seems the case. Inxi shows no vulkan informations but vulkaninfo and vkcube show proper output. inxi is v 3.3.37 (updated via inxi -U).

@OrsoBruno @hui A fix should come though… pinxi (development) versus inxi (release).

Thats the commit which will fix the missing vulkan informations in inxi.

When I upgraded to “nvidia-*-G06 570.x” package then it did not work. MESA was the used driver.

Maybe the BETA 570.x driver from the NVIDIA download page supports my GPU, but the “nvidia-*-G06 570.x” packages uses the STABLE release.

Please don’t spread false informations. The packaged 570.x drivers in openSUSE ARE the beta drivers. This was already mentioned in different threads and is also addressed in bugreports.

There were several users which deliberately wanted the new feature or even beta branch available in openSUSE. Now we have the beta branch.

And as proven above, the GTX 1650 Ti Mobile works flawlessly with the G06 (v570) drivers available for openSUSE.

Then why it did not work for me?
On my laptop the hdm1 only works when I use NVIDIA driver. (mesa/nouveau does not handle external monitor )

I upgraded from 550 to 570 and the external monitor instantly stopped working.

Would not be easier for the users to split STABLE and BETA versions of the same software into individual packages instead of using one package with multiple versions, and automatically update to the latest (which is the BETA)?

This is what the google-chrome does

  • google-chrome-stable 132
  • google-chrome-beta 134
  • google-chrome-canary 135

It is, 570 is beta and 550 is stable.

Do you have Optimus System /Intel/Nvidia Graphics?

inxi -G

On Optimus System, sometimes the hdmi is only connected to the Nvidia Card and does only works with Nvidia drivers.
