Basic Tumbleweed Install questions

Thanks everyone for your help in advance.

I have some basic install questions.

  1. I’m thinking to install tumbleweed as my main OS, I understand it’s a rolling release, but are packages not tested at all before that are available?

  2. I have 2 hard drives in my pc. I will be installing tumbleweed on one and windows on the other. Will I have any issues with booting? In the past when I instalation Linux, I would generally install on one hard drive and then when I booted my machine it would ask which OS to log into. Will I run into any issues considering I have two separate hard drives?

  3. Is there a guide or something that defines what I should do as basic system setup after installing tumbleweed?

Thanks,
Ajay

The Leap documentation can be used.

https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Documentation

Re 1: If you haven’t already found it, see Portal:Tumbleweed - openSUSE Wiki“Tumbleweed is based on Factory, openSUSE’s main development codebase. Tumbleweed is updated once Factory’s bleeding edge software has been integrated, stabilized and tested. Tumbleweed contains the latest stable applications and is ready and reliable for daily use.”

Re 2: When I ran Windows and Linux I used a similar setup. I kept each install separate from the other and used the bios boot option to select the drive to boot from.

Re. 3: Google may find something. There really isn’t a lot to do unless you are running a mail server, web server, etc. Plus there are a lot of how to’s in the forum.

Install Tumbleweed without fear, I have two computers and with both I have been running it for almost two years without major problems.
I avoid only the btrfs filesystem but it’s just a personal allergy, otherwise I think it’s one of the best Rollyng .

Tw is released over and over again, and thoroughly tested in openqa.opensuse.org before anything gets released

By default the installer will search for other operating systems, and find a Windows install, which will be added to the bootloader menu.

After install, there are no really necessary steps to be taken. You’ll end up with a desktop environment with a load of applications.

I know it’s been basically answered, but I’d like to add: and since you have a Windows install as well, it’s not as if your Tumbleweed blows up (highly unlikely, I’ve been running it for many years now with no issues) you’re without an OS. You have the Windows install as a backup. I basically do what you are, except I have 2 separate boxes - one runs opensuse tumbleweed and the other Win10 :good:
