Awfully small kicker

Hello.

I installed OpenSuSE 11.1 keeping my old 11.0 /home partition.
However, while everything else seems to go fine, my kicker-like bar on
the bottom now only occupies a small fraction of the screen horizontally
on KDE 4.1.

I tried to play somehow with the commands, but I cannot find any way to
give it back a normal size, nor does “Configure desktop” seem to work on
KDE.

If I try Alt-F2 and type “kicker”, I do get my gool old kicker bar, but
the new “kicker” (or whatever it is called now) does not want to go away
to make place for the bar:(

Is that a known bug or is there something I am not doing as I should
???

Thank you in advance

things I had in kicker : no “off” or “logout” buttons, no icons for
instant access to OpenOffice Writer, Firefox, and the like, no buttons
to switch virtual desktops, nothing :’(

Did I do anything wrong ? :frowning:

No, it’s just different from KDE3. Once you started playing with it, you’ll get used to it.
As for favorite apps: Just drag and drop them from the main menu to the panel.
As for special apps: Right click the panel, Add Widget. Some are not available. I also missed the logout buttons, but since clicking the desktop somewhere with the right mouse click offers the lock screen and logout feature just like in KDE3, I don’t miss that any more. I actually think it was a waste of space now
Sooner or later somebody will write a widget for it, I’m sure. Maybe there’s already one on the web, I don’t know.
The “Pager” widget is the one allowing you to switch between desktops.

Again, KDE4 is different.

And there’s also a lock/logout widget…

???:frowning:

I am also puzzled by right clicking on the desktop : I had finally got
used to getting the -lock/unlock plasmoids- choice, and as I was
beginning to like it, well, it disappeared, from the choices and I just
do not know if it is a bug, a quirk, a feature or just something I did
wrong >:(

I get a “Sort Icons” menu that dod not seem to be here before, but
which does not seem to do anything.

Generally speaking, is there a way in KDE4.x to revert to how things
were before the last change - just like any decent application allows
nowadays, sometimes even repeteadly - with Ctrl-Z (Undo) or anything
similar ? Thank you…
