Autoplaying dvds with a media player other than totem

I am using opensuse 11.0 (32-bit) and Gnome.

I am having a few problems trying to change the default media player when inserting media such as a dvd. I only have the options: totem, do nothing and open folder.

I had no problems with this in 10.3, I just changed the setting in the “Removable drives and media preferences” control panel. Now the “Multimedia” tab is not there - it seems to have moved to the “File management panel” under “Media”. Attempting to change the settings here, I get the same options as above meaning that I cant set this to vlc.

Also when I right click on the dvd icon on the desktop, there is only the option for totem although I have vlc and mplayer also installed.

I have also tried the “Gnome Configuration Editor” in the desktop > gnome > volume_manager section I have set the autoplay_dvd and changed the autoplay_dvd_command to vlc %d.

Does anyone have any ideas to resolve this?

(Other than this, opensuse 11.0 is a great OS, much faster!!)

I know this is not helping answer your question. But could you explain how you did this in 10.3? I’m trying to get VLC set up for autoplay.

In 10.3, I just went to “control centre > Removable Drives and Media Preferences > Multimedia” tab and then change the command to run when a dvd is inserted to vlc dvd:///dev/#device name#. Where you can find #device name# in the VLC > File > open disc > Advanced options > customise. You can also add other options here for fullscreen etc.

I hope that this helps, sorry if it doesnt!

thank you. Unfortunately i didn’t notice 'till just now that you are using Gnome. I guess i will have to keep looking.
