There are a few different actions/features that are called “automount” (in a more or less precise way of wording). When this is about the mounting done for the desktop end-user when (s)he connects a mass-storage device, then please at least tell us which desktop environment you use.
I am using openbox. I just wanna make it, when I plug the external drive and mount automaticly at /run/media or /media.

Being not an openbox user I can only point you to what I found. In this
thread (last post) http://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=1209.0
the user installs udiskie and adds a “udikie &” to the autostart.
udiskie is not available as a package but here
https://pypi.python.org/pypi/udiskie
as it is a python program there should not be much trouble to install it
from source.
Maybe I give that myself a try on one machine where I use fluxbox.
