Automatic change of MAC address every zypper dup?

Tumbleweed on a notebook, up-to-date.

I’m using a donation edition of FreeFileSync to keep some data trees in sync with a server. It suddenly complained I had installed it on 10 different computers. Turns out, software looks for the MAC address and it changes quite often after zypper dup.
See here: Donation Edition stops working!!! - FreeFileSync Forum

I can understand that the guy who maintains the software doesn’t like the thought that a $20 edition of his programm is distributed. On the other hand it is obviously a bad idea to glue the license to the mac address. I don’t like the thought of being tracked by the MAC address.

Any ideas? – Thank you!

You could start with telling us what network hardware and network management application you are using.

Hardware are the wifi and the ethernet parts in my notebook (Thinkpad Carbon X1 Gen9). Network is managed by network manager under KDE.

Sorry for long delayed answer. I run out of beer and went for weekend shopping.

So record output of

ip link

before zypper dup and after and post here.

I’ll collect output of ip link in different situations (Ethernet / Wifi, Office / Home) and report the outcome.

Disable MAC randomization and go on:
