Audio issue in Sony VAIO laptop

Hi!

I have installed OpenSuse 11.2 in my Sony VAIO laptop VPCEB1M.

The only issue i have is that i am getting no sound out of either the laptop speakers or the headphone jack.

Trying to fix this issue i have been checking all volumes (input and output) are not muted and working my way through the OpenSuse “SDB:Audio Troubleshooting” without solving the problem

I have been following the instructions listed in the thread ](http://forums.opensuse.org/get-help-here/laptop/420449-no-sound-sony-vaio-vgn-fs715w.html) and running the tests without succeeding.

Could someone help me? :’(

I have pasted the output of several commands i ran in case it could be useful:

Sorry to read of the problem you have experienced with your sound.

Apologies for replying so late, but I just got back from vacation less than 15 minutes ago.

Please, can you provide a bit more information. Please run in a terminal:

/usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh --no-upload

and then copy the file /tmp/alsa-info.txt to New - Pastie and press paste, and then post here the website/url that it provides you. That will provide us some needed information on your software and hardware configuration.

Hello,

This is the output of /usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh --no-upload uploaded in pastie.org:

<script src=‘http://pastie.org/992883.js’></script>

Sorry, i can’t create the link properly… :S

Thanks for your help

remove the line highlighted in red from your /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf file. Save the change. Restart and test.

Then run that diagnostic script again:

/usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh --no-upload

and post on New - Pastie and press paste and post here the URL/website it provides

By the way, the link was:

http://pastie.org/992883

you just needed to remove the “.js”. i.e. http://pastie.org/992883

I also surfed on this a bit, and for the ALC269 that is in your Sony, there appears to be a bug in the 1.0.20/1.0.21 of alsa that was fixed in version 1.0.23.

Try updating your alsa version per the guidance here:
SDB:Alsa-update - openSUSE

Pay VERY close attention to the version information/guidance in that guide.

Also, after installation is complete, double check to ensure you successfully updated alsa. Many users make the mistake of thinking they updated alsa, when in fact they did not.

Hi oldcpu!

I have updated ALSA drivers and now the sound works ok.

I was getting a bit tired of trying solutions for this, but i have learned a lot.

Many thanks!

Sorry to read it was so difficult. And I am VERY glad to read it is now working.

I’m curious (for my own education) … Did you need to retain the “model=auto” entry in /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf? Or did you keep it? or does it even matter?

And when you get the chance, again for my own education … … what is the output now of:

rpm -qa '*alsa*'
rpm -q libasound2
