Ati Radeon Xpress 1100

Hi,

I’ve got a laptop with an ATI RS485 [Radeon Xpress 1100 IGP]. Running KDE4 factory (4.1.3)

Currently I’m using the fglrx drivers from the ati repo and I am trying to find out whether or not I can use the free radeon or radeonhd drivers instead.

I’m not too fussed about the desktop effects, but it would be nice. Mainly I want to get rid of the horribly slow window resizing.

I’ve googled around but I can’t find any explicit mentions of this card model (they all go on about R300 or R400 but not RS…). Anyone have any luck using radeon or radeonhd drivers, and what is the performance like on KDE4 - better or worse than the ati binary?

Edit.

Or, does it help to use the fglrx driver from ati’s site rather than the repo? If so, what do I need to install to compile/install it?

Ok, I have tried the free drivers.
This card is not supported by radeonhd - no X
It is supported by radeon, but the driver won’t do direct rendering on this card -> no DRI
Also, with radeon, the fonts are all uglified somehow and video playback is a nightmare

Seems the only choice is fglrx.

Sorry for replying to my own post, can’t edit it. Problem solved anyhow.
