Anyone using KDE 4.4 yet?

How is it? Is it faster? Does it fix any bugs from previous versions?

I dunno, the repo is down for me.

dowload.opensuse.org

Yes everything is down right now

oh…here too…****…

Try a mirror
openSUSE Download Mirrors - 11.2

Mind you mine in UK are not sync’d yet

i changed thanks. is this the repository for kde 4.4
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/UNSTABLE:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.2

anyone has any idea of how to install it?

Unstable? Sure it is not.
I thought in KDE4 Stable but nothing yet.

Wrong repo!

should be
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.2

And what’s the difference between the stable and the factory repos? Don’t should we wait for the stable repo update?

faco84, I don’t think it is going to the Stable repo, since it is staying in Factory with 11.3. It won’t be released until 11.3 is released and that will be a while. Although, that could change before then. At least, that is how I understand it.

I see Wilson. But is that factory repo a stable packages source?? I mean is “secure” to upgrade your KDE4 to the 4.4 version through the factory repo??

No. It is not a Stable repo. Factory is the 11.3 that is in Alpha status right now. You can get KDE 4.4 from there, but before you do it, ask questions, so that you do not mess up and update 11.2 to 11.3 by accident. That could be bad.

In other words, you want to make sure you don’t grab anything from there besides KDE 4.4.

Exactly. I only want to have my kde (4.3) up to date with the latest kde stable version. Is that too hard to get? :stuck_out_tongue:

stable desktop
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/STABLE:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.2

will give 4.3.5

You can add the community to match
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.2

By the way caf, how did you update your kde to 4.4? I really want to know the best way to do it.

I’m still waiting for 4.4 release, still running RC3
Repos have not got it for me yet

Add this repo
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.2

then do
ImageBam - Fast, Free Image Hosting and Photo Sharing

You could wait forever.

The STABLE repo contains updates for the KDE version the version came with.

The Factory-Desktop contains newly developped, released versions.

The UNSTABLE repo contains the bleeding edge packages.

To answer the original poster: I’m running it, it’s fast, it’s clean, I’m completely in love with the Launch and Search activity. :good:

Me too.

Did you just say you are Unstable ?
That’s a genuine question mate;)

I’ve updated and now wish I hadn’t. Had a nasty feeling when I saw Redland
being included - I’d removed it as nepomuk wasn’t using it - and I was right
to worry but for the wrong reason - I think. Nepomuk won’t start because
Virtuoso is now version 6.0 and doesn’t recognise pre-6.0 databases. Haven’t
they heard of backwards compatibility?

OK, I’ve now renamed the virtuoso folder (in
~/.kde4/share/apps/nepomuk/repository/main/data) and kicked off nepomuk and
it seems to be working.

Nice move to switch from v5 in KDE4/4 RC3 to v6 in final release.
