anyone know how to extract models from a ".z64" file?

Ok a .z64 file or .v64 is a Nintendo64 rom, (videogame file), so naturally it has all the charcter models and whatnot…

so I was wondering is there any way to extract models and/or textures from said game, and turn them into libraries for other applications such as blender3D or 3Dstudios?

I just want to monkey around with some 3D models in blender, for fun not for any commercial purposes…

maybe it is more simple to model from scratch?

already have done, I’m a decent way into making a rather decent video game, plus several side projects.

but in this case…

I’d think if there were a linux model extraction program like the windows one: OGLE: The OpenGLExtractor | OGLE: OpenGLExtractor by Eyebeam R&D it would make it easier to get the raw models.

something like that would be handy, though I’d also need a texture ripper…

pretty much, I’m rather fluent in blender, I’d just like to take the easy route for this sort of thing rather than trying to recreate a character model from N64 on my own…

as for my advantage it is much more easier to model new one, than editing existing model even from another app for ex 3ds.

i am draw most textures by myself in inkscape and gimp… and search by gg for cc with allowed commercial uses

not working with characters and phisycs… don’t know how it is :frowning:

ps:
in many cases modeles(if not all espessially game devices) and textures in games is protected by autority rights…
one of the things that i switching to linux is to work legally… and it is impossible for me going the way you talking  even if i have possibility for this… the biggest point for this that i have less time to make it, than to edit existing model(in most cases it is needed to edit) of course all IMHO
sorry for my english by i hope it was understandable
cheers vs bear

I understood your english!

I have worked with characters and physics! I do it often, I’m just saying if I could rip the model it might save me like 4 hours in making it, texturing it, and then editing and rigging it…

I use the gimp my self for textures.

as for modeling a brand new model… i think you miss the point, if you do that you have very good chance that your character will look nothing like it’s older counterpart… it’s easier to just add some edge loops here and there replace the eye textures with eyeballs, open the mouth ETC. and then you are garauteed to have a model thaqt looks exactly like it’s predecessor. then you can add subsurfing and or set it smooth…

a quick job!

but alas that is not what this discussion was about, i suppose no one here has any links to Model rippers. and by the way they arent’ illegal themselves, and so long as you don’t use said models for commercial purposes you should be fine with a little “fan time” with the character model…
