Annoying audio BEEP on shut down. How to remove?

I’ve searched this forum and other and nothing works. Has anyone with 11.4 installed had this issue and resolved it?

It would probably help if you indicated at what point the sound is made.
During a shutdown, hit “esc” to see the console and what processes are
being shut down when the sound runs.

Also, does the sound come from the integrated PC speaker, or from the
sound card?

Assuming you mean the beep a second just before final power off or reboot,
then:

Path: System/Boot

Description: Variables used on system shutdown, reboot, or halt

Type: list(no,yes,octave)

Default: no

Set to “yes” or “quint” to play a quint tone sequence at system halt or

reboot

or set to “octave” to play octave sound at that occasion.

HALT_SOUND=“octave”

i have openSUSE 11.4 installed and i know how to stop a beep if you
are using KDE…are you? (it is almost always necessary for help request
to include the desktop environment in use)

but, the beep i know how to stop might not be the beep you hear (like
others here, i ask you to tell us when you hear it!)
