Amarok and cds

I usually just use Amarok for all of my audio files, but now that I’ve put in openSUSE 11 it won’t play cds. There isn’t even an entry under Configure Amarok the refers to it.

In the past I used the Jem Report to set up my multimedia, but there is no hacking openSUSE 11 and I figure I’m far enough along to fudge stuff together by myself.

Before I go messing around in Yast, could this problem be because Amarok is using the Gstreamer engine instead of Xine?

Sorry, I just realized I put this in the wrong forum.

Possibly. I always use the Xine engine.

I finally got my Amarok to work with cd’s and steaming radio by reinstalling
it, make sure everything comes from the packman repository and then
configured it to run with the xine engine and alsa as the output sound
system. Also made sure all the perl rpms needed were installed.

I updated it and it made no difference except that now it was using the Yauap engine so I installed the xine-amarok plugin and that fixed it.

Immediately upon selecting the xine engine from the engine options and clicking apply a number of extra options appeared including those pertaining to the cd drives.

It would appear Gstreamer and Yauap don’t support cd drives, but xine does.

According to Amarok Requirements, you need Xine or Helix engines.

Might be of help!!!

By the ways thats my first post to openSUSE forums!!!

Welcome to our forum! Thank you for participating.

I can confirm, that installing xine-amarok plugin by searching, select and install in Yast -> Software, solves this problem in 11.0 /64 bit version.

After installing the plugin it is possible to select xine in Amarok/Settings
