Amarok 2.9 can't find lyrics or wikipedia

I’ve been using Amarok for years and years.On my current desktop, using opensuse 42.3 it has Amarok 2.80 with KDE 4.14.33 and it works fine. On my HPG62 laptop, I recently installed Opensuse 15.1, added the multimedia one click, and ended up with Amarok 2.9 with KDE4.14.38. This Amarok plays mp3 files just fine, but Amarok can’t find lyrics or wikipedia. Should I just wait for an update, or is there something I can do?

Thanks, Bob

As far as I know, the Wikipedia plugin for Amarok is broken.

Roughly speaking, Amarok is in a state of disrepair. It is a left-over from Plasma4 that has never been properly upgraded to Plasma 5. I gather that there is work under way to do something about this, and you might eventually see changes in Tumbleweed if this works out.

I’m just assuming that Amarok will continue to be partially broken in the Leap 15 series of releases. It still works as a music player, even it it lacks some of the frills.

Thanks for the quick reply. I’m sad to hear this about amarok, since I’ve been using it for at least a decade, and have a large number (2.1 TB) of audio books and music files. I don’t use Tumbleweed, so how will I know about the update? Guess I should also start looking for new audio players and book collection programs. Any suggestions?

There was a discussion of the factory mailing list a few months back. I think one of the suggestions was “rhythmbox”.

I’m staying with Amarok for now.

There’s not much you can do atm. Problem seems to be with Amarok upstream

Have you enabeled the following;
In amarok select, settings, select, configure amarok ,
select , scripts,
select,
Lyricwiki , then select ok.

In amarok select applet lyrics and youre done!!!

works just fine here.
