Running Tumbleweed, French language, with at least weekly updates on a Lenovo T520 configured for a T560 keyboard (the T520 is not available) as “fr-azerty”.
All running well until I noticed that the AltGr key no longer functions. There does not appear to be any way of activating this key even using the special keymappings. I do not know whether it is a level 3 key or not (I am assuming it is) but whatever I configure, either the key is not shown in the keyboard display, or a multikey or level 3 key is shown that cannot be actuated by the physical keyboard…
Any ideas?
I remember I had this same problem on my old macbook pro some years ago.
Think i had to go into keyboard setting → key bindings and then check “right alt” under “key to choose the 3rd level” in the KDE settings
I have a nasty feeling that I have already tried that — nevertheless, thank you for the tip, I shall try it (again?) when I get my hands on the machine again (belongs to my wife for her veterinary practice…)
Gave it a go but to no avail. However, I am wondering if the key itself has given up the ghost - it is a very old laptop !
I have tried mapping the right Ctrl key as an alternative (how many people actually use it???) and that seems to work perfectly.
You could check if the key send any signal using xev on X11 or wev on wayland
I’ll give it a try next time I’m at the surgery…
