SUSe 11.2-64 running on a core quad Intel motherboard. In the room here are 3 computers with outputs through a Behringer mixer to a Sony surround sound system–it sounds better plus I dont have the spider web of a separate sound system for each machine…
11.2-64 has been excellent so far with the exception of the music player–Amorak. Someone decided to leave out any sound contour tools. I also have Banshee and MPlayer but have experienced various problems with them. Amorak, at least for my use isnt too lame but whoever “They” are decided to do away with the graphic eq.I like the ability to build playlists with Amorak which is missing in some other programs without an exercise in file system manipulation.
Any one have suggestions?? One note I will add here is that in Windows 7 64 bit professional, which I am forced to use because of no software for my work written in Linux, running on another machine here-- someone had what I consider the really excellent idea of incorporating a graphic equalizer on the machine output under the Realtek audio package…one eq to control all sounds from that machine–anything like that available for SUSe??
“caf4926” what version of Phonon are you running? If I load Amarok 2.3, the Equalizer does not work due to the (older) version of Phonon. Is it possible that if you are using KDE 4.3.5, the mixer may not work, at least with Phonon 4.3.1-3.2 or 4.3.1.3.3 it does not work for me.
I am having the same experience with 2.3. When I try to open the eq I get the message “Sorry equalizer is not supported by your version of phonon”. Any ideas?? I checked for a later version of Phonon but from what I am showing (after the backports have been added to the repo list in Yast) is Phonon 4.3.1-3.3. The KDE here is what was included in the 11.2-64 bit distro which looks like according to the Yast list of KDE, 4.3.5-0.1.1
It does seem like sound is better with this new version…just no EQ. Note that Im running Intel HDA STAC92xx analog and can run either that or PulseAudio (in the config section of Amorak 2.3) but makes no diff on the eq…that volume control on 2.3 is nifty!!
thanks for the repo. Im updating to 4.4.2 and had a lot of conflicts to resolve that were fairly easily done by vendor change. Going to be interesting to see how this all works out…and just for a graphic equalizer
Is 4.4.2 materially different?? Obviously is since Amorak has an eq now… I run this machine in a semi production environment in my home office but its not a mature system so if I break it no problem to reload
Break the OS?? Nuke and pave, format and reload LOL
Question about the graphic equalizer topic. This is great news for the new Amarok but any way to adjust these setting for the whole system? When I watch flash videos at night and all of a sudden the subwoofer starts rumbling, i am afraid I’ll wake the neighbors. It would be great to manage this through a graphic equalizer. Is this possible?
Well I was able to get Phonon 4.4 to load under KDE 4.3.5 by using the 1-Click install. So, the Equalizer works just fine now in Amarok. Thanks for showing your repository listing for Phonon caf4926. I am not sure if this is the recommended method, but I am trying to stick with KDE 4.3.5 if at all possible.
jdmcdaniel… is that a 1 click install for phonon 4.4 or for the entire KDE 4.4?? I still am running 4.3 due to the multi monitor support issues that seem to be a problem under 4.4
expat1, when using the 1-Click install; it seemed to add 3 new repositories, updating only Phonon without creating any conflicts.
I did not update my KDE, but stayed at version 4.3.5. After the update, I disabled the added repositories and all seems right with the world, so far.
Many here do not use the 1-Click Install and fear a bad update might come through, messing up something. So far for me, this has not occurred. After the application install is done, I promptly disable or remove the added repositories.
