alert running tbird version 24-5-0 in opensuse verion 13.1

Hello dear Linux-experts

i run tbird on the opensuse: and i have to confess; i have an alert

running tbird version 24-5-0 in opensuse verion 13.1

when starting i find an alert:

Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files
in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions
and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix
the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour
when accessing security features

what can i do -

what should i test - do first

love to hear from you

and to be frank: There are manymany mails on the machine: 13700 mails in one account

Hard drive capacity

Check your hard drive’s remaining capacity. To do this on Windows machines:

From the Start menu, click "Computer" (or "My Computer")
Right click on Local Disk (C: drive)
Choose Properties. A dialog will come up.
Go to the General tab

If it reports less than 1MB free space, you’ll need to make more room.

File permissions

Check the file permissions in your profile folder. The file named cert8.db must not be read-only. To do this on Windows machines:

Open your profile folder.
Right click on the file named cert8.db.
Choose Properties. A dialog will come up.
Go to the General tab
Make sure the "Read-only" checkbox is not checked.
Press OK.

Corrupted file

The file cert8.db in your profile folder may have become corrupted. Delete this file while the application
(Firefox, SeaMonkey, etc) is closed. [1] To do this on Windows machines:

Did you do what they suggested?

At least try this:

cd $HOME/.thunderbird
cd *.default
df .
ls -l *.db

and post the output here (in a code block).

hello dear nrickert

SORRY SOORRY FOR THE german text. i am in a big big hurry atm.
wiil do eng- later the day

You are not short of disk space.

I don’t see the output from “ls -l” in that profile directory. I wanted to see if the ownerships is wrong on some of those files.

Instead, I see a “chown”. So maybe ownership was wrong, and you were trying to fix it.

hello dear nrickert,

thanks alot for the quick reply

at the moment i am not at the notebook - i am in office. But as soon as i am at home i will have a look and post the output of the

Meanwhile - many many thanks!!!

see you later the day.

good day dear nrickert -

here we have more data:

martin@linux-70ce:~/.thunderbird/3qyttgqd.default> cd $HOME/.thunderbird
martin@linux-70ce:~/.thunderbird> ls -l
insgesamt 12
drwx------ 7 martin users 4096 21. Mai 22:58 3qyttgqd.default
drwx------ 3 martin users 4096 21. Mai 22:52 Crash Reports
-rw-r--r-- 1 martin users 94 24. Mai 2013 profiles.ini

does this clear up the issues a bit. guess that the ownership is a bit messy… isn ´t it?

look forward to hear from you

**btw: **do we need any more information or data - should i make more tests with the console… ?

That part looks okay. However, the files inside the directory “3qyttgqd.default” are the important ones. In particular, the error message was about the file “cert8.db”. So what does “ls -l” show for that file?

hello dear nrickert

many thanks for this guided tour through the machine

in console the above mentioend term is marked in red color. What does that mean!?

question: did i install and configure tbird well - or do i have some security flaws within my installation - see the user of the files and the folders. Nrickert - i need your advice here.

guess that there something went wrong…

look forward to her from you

Make sure Thunderbird is completely closed, nothing running.

Then, delete this file:

-rw------- 1 martin users 98304 21. Mai 22:52 cert8.db

Launch Thunderbird again.

If that fails, create a new Thunderbird profile to test with.

hello dear nrickert

many many thanks - now ir runs like a charme

you hit the point
