Is anyone else experiencing any troubles with Alacarte not properly updating the app menus? I have just today, after an update yesterday I think, been having trouble. Menu items do not appear in the menu browser thing-a-majigger when created (What do people call this overlay menu now?), and even a simple menu operation such as moving a file up or down in the menu order (a rather useless thing now with this overlay) completely removes the item. I have no web-browser icons thanks to this. I have experienced this type of behavior before under Ubuntu…but never really found the problem (it seemed to resolve itself eventually).
Yes, I attempted to add a WINE game start-up bash script to the menus. Something I have done many times before under openSUSE and Ubuntu for games like Portal, Portal2, CSS, etc. However, this time nothing showed up after the menu option was created. If you ask me Alacarte is rather outdated and should be replaced since things like menu order are no longer relevant. Is there another way to go about main menu management now under Gnome 3?
I suppose we could. Does creation of another user take any hd space in openSUSE (I assume it is only going to create a new home /home/usrname/ folder)? If it happens in only mine what is your proposed solution (remove some hidden gnome settings file)?
*Can you also check whether your alacarte entries are here “/home/<replaceWithCorrectProfileName>/.local/share/applications” ?
*Not much of space would be taken up. Only a few kbs. This process is done to identify whether alacarte is broken or something is wrong with your profile folder
*Yes it would create /home/usrname/.
*If issue happens only in your home directory, then you may opt to move all your files into the new user and use that user as your “new” home. Then again ,you may try removing the offending file and stuff.
Ideally custom menus do get loaded from this folder. You should see many of these launchers or whatever you call them in activities. Any luck with new user ?
