I have a few hours ago installed Leap 42.2. So far it runs well except when I want to shut it down. When I shutdown, I get to a command screen with a prompt to login, i.e. I get “linux-swkq login:” with cursor blinking.
What shall I do in this situation? I have entered my username, but it is as nothing happens.
How to enable a normal shutdown?

P.S: Afterwards get some message lines, and then screen became shutdown, but the machine is still on.
I sometimes see that on shutdown, except that it eventually shuts down.
At that point, the graphic session has gone away, exposing the command line session that preceded it. But you cannot actually login because it is in the process of shutting down.
If it seems stuck there, you can try CTRL-ALT-DEL to see if that does anything, though it might change it to a reboot.
At one time, I had a computer where shutdown didn’t work properly. So I would reboot, then power-off when I saw the boot menu.

I have found out that it was nouveau drivers for my NVIDIA card that were cause for this behavior. After disabling them (through blacklisting), rebooting and shutdown issue was solved.

I get that same thing on shutdown, it’s not for very long though. So I figured it was normal, it happened in 42.1 also.
I too have G03 Nvidia for a GTX 650 card. I thought the nouvau drivers had to stay installed though. What happens if a kernel security update comes along, it will most likely break the nvidia driver, thats why I thought leaving the nouvau (I always spell this word wrong) drivers in as a back up kernel…I’m probably wrong on this I’m not too experienced with SUSE, but I love the OS.
The underlying terminal which happens to be at the login prompt may be exposed for a short time before the shut down proceeds. It is not to be used it just happens to be beneath the GUI which has gone away. Now you can still have a hang but you don’t need to worry unless the shut down does not happen in a few seconds. So if you wait what exactly happens??
Don’t mess with nouveau driver leave it alone. If you use the NVIDIA driver the nouveau is not used so is not a problem.
