I send the messages through opensuse, from the laptop that i have the problem

I 'm very sorry for this
I didnt understand before what you asked from me

Did you re-install alsa-driver-kmp-default like I suggested? Did you restart your pc afterward?

This applications contain kernel modules. Your PC needs to be restarted. It could be there is indeed still no sound, but if you did not restart, the test means nothing.

Why are you doing a copy and paste to our web site? I asked you put it on a paste bin site. And I quote my post:

Is there a 3rd part ? There should be some more information.

Anyway, I note a 64-bit openSUSE-11.1 with a hardware Codec: Realtek ALC888 and the 2.6.27.7-9-default kernel.

I note there are some updates to alsa here for the acer aspire 4930G, and maybe that is relevant to your 5738G:
Search results for ALC888 - AlsaProject

I recommend you update to the daily snapshots of the alsa sound driver. You can do that by opening a terminal, type “su” (no quotes - enter root password when prompted) and copy and pasting the following six zypper commands, in sequence, one at a time:

zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/audio:/snapshot/openSUSE_11.1/ multimedia
zypper install alsa alsa-utils alsa-tools alsa-firmware alsa-oss alsa-plugins alsa-plugins-pulse libasound2
zypper rr multimedia
zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/audio:/KMP/openSUSE_11.1/ multimedia
zypper install alsa-driver-kmp-default
zypper rr multimedia

Even if told the application is already installed, please send all six zypper commands anyway. And select YES where asked to ensure applications are installed.

Then restart you PC and test your sound. Be certain to check your Master, PCM, and Speaker volume controls in your mixer, moving them up to 95% for testing purposes.

I am very very sorry. I didnt know how to save a so big text in picture file
i unistalled alsa-driver-kmp-default but i dont know how to install it again
How i will do it

??? How did you install it in the first place? It does not “just come” with openSUSE. You had to have installed it separate. Anyway, its a mute point because we can fix this.

Was anything else removed?

Do you still have alsa-plugins-pulse, alsa-tools-gui, alsa-docs, alsa-oss, alsa-oss-32bit, alsa, alsa-firmware, alsa-utils, alsa-plugins, alsa-tools installed?

What is the output of:
rpm -qa | grep alsa

If those other apps are still installed, you probably only need to follow my instructions here.
openSUSE Forums - View Single Post - Acer aspire 5738G, no sound - zypper commands

Now i have a new problem.
I entered the command you gave to me.
And suse doesnt start the x server:

NVIDIA: Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module. Please check your systems kernel log for additional error messages.
Failed to load module “nvidia” (module-specific error, 0)
No drivers available

Fatal server error:

giving up
xinit: Connection refused (errn 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errn3): Server error.

Searching the Internet for ‘acer aspire 5938 alsa’ with google I noted some ubuntu users managed to get the sound working by forcing a model configuration.

After updating your alsa with the zypper commands (reboot and test your sound) if your sound still does not work, then you could try to force a configuration upon boot.

You could do that by editing the file /etc/modprobe.d/sound with a text editor. Dependant on your desktop (gnome or kde), in

  • gnome type: ** gnomesu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/sound**

  • kde type: kdesu ‘kwrite /etc/modprobe.d/sound’
enter root password when prompted for a password and then add a line to the start of the /etc/modprobe.d/sound file so that it looks like this:

options snd-hda-intel model=auto
options snd slots=snd-hda-intel
# u1Nb.Fok4Y2QakF0:82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel

Save that change. Reboot your PC. Test your sound.

It reads to me like your kernel version was changed… it might have been me giving you the wrong command.

You PC will take you to a text / ascii prompt. Log in as a regular user.

What is the output of:
rpm -qa | grep alsa
rpm -qa | grep kernel

Note in cases like this you can alway fall back on the vesa driver.

Go back to earlier in this thread where you used:
sax2 -r -m 0=vesa
or
sax2 -r -l -m 0=vesa
you can always do the same until you sort this out.

I double checked my commands.

They were correct. It was not me that caused your GUI not starting problem.

You did something else to your PC to cause this. Your kernel version was old, and you probably updated to the new kernel, or updated your xorg, and it caused this. Which will likely mean we will have to start all over again with the sound.

But its likely easily fixable. What is making this so difficult is you are very very new to this, and things that an average Linux user can do in less than 10 seconds, are causing you difficulty.

The only advice I can give is keep plugging away. It does get easier.

Start the Software installer and make sure you have the pattern ‘Linux Kernel Development’ installed.

Open a terminal window and issue following commands:

mkdir NVIDIA-driver
-Creates a folder ‘NVIDIA-driver’ in your homedir.

cd NVIDIA-driver
-Makes you enter the ‘NVIDIA-driver’ folder.

wget ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/190.25/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-190.25-pkg2.run

-Downloads the latest beta driver from NVIDIA

Now logout of your desktop back to the login screen. At the graphic login screen, hit Ctrl-Alt-F1. This brings you to the console, with a text based login. Login with username and password. Now issue the following commands to install and configure the driver. You will be prompted for your rootpassword on all the ‘su -c’ commands. but that’s for your own security.

cd ~/NVIDIA-driver
-Enter the folder where driver installer was downloaded.

su -c ‘init 3’
-Change runlevel to 3: no X-server (so no graphic desktop)

su -c ‘sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-190.25-pkg2.run -q’
-Starts the driver installer. Accept the licence and confirm all steps. The driver will be built and installed. After it finishes succesfully, you’ll have to tell the X-server to use it:

su -c ‘cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf .’
-Make a copy of the working xorg.conf to the NVIDIA-driver folder.

su -c ‘sax2 -r -m0=nvidia’
-This starts sax2. It may take a while to start. At the screen you will see, click ‘Change configuration’. In the next screen you will see your card, though it may not have the proper name. In the properties you can set NoLogo and RenderAccel, by just clicking the mentioned options. Check screen resolution. Click OK, Save. And exit.
Now you’re back in the console screen. The last command exits you from the console and starts the X-server:

su -c ‘init 5 && exit’

Full 3D and all desktop effects from here on.

Good luck
