Well, check the NVidia homepage?
Uwe
So silly of me let me rephrase that…
i was wondering if i could get the drivers from another source as would prefer to use package manager or some inbuilt driver manger i don’t no about?
As there seem to be no user friendly support at nvidia’s website for newbies like me…and you wouldn’t happen to no how to open .run files?
I am new to my hardware and o.s i must make you laugh…
I’m still confused as to what you’re trying to archieve, however if it’s installing the nvidia drivers, please take a look at NVIDIA - openSUSE
See the “Hard way” there for how to install the drivers .run file.
- itsthtguy,
no, you don’t make me laugh. Sorry for providing a short answer.
You can obtain the driver from the NVidia repo, but you can also just run the installer from NVidia. I found that easier, actually, the only downside is that you need to repeat it after a kernel update.
In Yast, install the kernel development pattern. Then download the installer from NVidia. Logout of the GUI, hit Alt+Ctrl+F1 and login as root. Then type “init 3” to change runlevels. Change to the directory where you saved the installer. Make it executable by
chmod +x NVidiainstallernamewhatever.run
and execute the installer with
…/NVidiainstallernamewhatever.run
Now just follow the onscreen instructions.

Thanks! Ill do that tonight…
