I did not make any changes to xorg.conf yet. Should I?
It’s been a long week at work. Got the new 710 today. It is installed and the boot is clean, but it will not run startX.
I logged in via text mode and entered startx.
Below was the error message:
Using system config directory “/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d”
Parse error on line 4 of section Monitor in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-saxmonitors.conf
The VertRefresh keyword must be followed by a list of numbers or ranges.

xinit failed. /usr/bin/Xorg is not setuid, maybe that’s the reason?
If so either use a display manager (strongly recommended) or adjust /etc/permissions.local and run “chkstat --system --set” afterwards
I don’t want to mess anything up so thought i’d ask for input before I do anything.
It’s a very long post, what are you trying to do? Can it be summed up in a few words? Has a hardware upgrade been performed? Has a software upgrade been done? Are the Nvidia drivers installed correctly? Are the Nouveau drivers on the black list? So you can make a small summary!
Hi
I would move any of those previous manual configurations for your monitors and cards down in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d somewhere and then let the system and desktop take care of configuration.
This post started needing help to get Blender running.
It was determined that my nvidia cards are no longer supported, and suggested that I upgrade
I purchased a EVGA GeForce GT 710 , with support for 3 monitors (which is what I have)
The challenge now is to get that video card working.
Additional info, the install I am trying to get working with nvidia is tumbleweed with cinnamon
There is also another partition with LXQT that is using the nouveau driver. It is working fine.
Hi
For blacklisting nouveau there should be a nvidia.conf file in /etc/modprobe.d?
No, you should not need those old files to start with, sax has been dead eons, they need to go… Move them out of the directory, then will see if you need to create a new config. If so you need to use the nvidia tools.
I rebooted from LXQT
Let it come into the Ice boot
I logged out and back into Cinnamon.
Happy dance, after a week it is back, mostly.
It is only running a single monitor.
There is an error message
Running in software rendering mode.
Cinnamon is currently running without cideo hardware acceleration, …
There is no desktop menu bar. It is there, but no icons. I cannot access any apps.
Anything I can select from the right mouse click does not show up.
It is almost like they are opening on the second monitor, that is black.
I ran nvidia-settings --query CurrentMetaMode and it returned errors:
ERROR: An internal driver error occurred
ERROR: Unable to load info from any available system

Hi
OK, small steps Possibly your configuration (For three monitors). So, create a test user for a clean/default setup and log in to that user, does every thing appear ok?
Lets stick with this new user so it doesn’t break your real user…
Now, if all good, in Cinnamon is there a device/screen configuration tool? Else can you run the command xrandr as your user, do all the screen show up? If you run the command nvidia-settings, do all the screens show up?
