13.2/TW switch to LibreSSL - Experience?

Hi!

I want to leave behind openSSL, seen enough

So I opened YaST on a (more or less plain vanilla) 13.2 and TW, choose to install LibreSSL and had a look what comes next.

Both systems wanted to uninstall openssl, not really a surprise.

On 13.2 a lot of conflicts (mainly with Libreoffice and a lot of others) came up

On TW python3, libpurple, ca-cert-mozilla etc came up.

Overall, looks pretty scary to me, I don’t want to destroy the whole systems…

As I didn’t find much on this interweb-thing regarding opensuse switching to LibreSSL, I wanted to ask if somebody could share some experience/thoughts on this.

Many thanks in advance

Since 13.2 is approaching EOL,
I’d strongly recommend you upgrade to 42.1 before making any major changes to applications running on your machine.

…but 13.2 is stable like hell, has no problems with my graphics, VNC and and and. Will keep it for a while

But,
We really are in the final countdown for only a few short months… And then you might need to re-install all over again (It’s only a maybe but you never know for sure what apps will easily migrate with a distro upgrade… or not).

You may also find in these last few months that a lot of package maintainers may have moved on and aren’t spending as much time supporting packages for 13.2. This would definitely affect any leading edge versions of apps.

OK, then focus on the second OS (TW) in my question!

I will try to set up a fresh TW over the weekend and switch from openssl to libressl. Is there any advice to someone who wants to do that? Do’s and Don’t Do’s?

Would be really nice to get some info on the process of switching!

Many thanks in advance
