12.3 RC2 update from dvd sysinfo broken

Trying to use sysinfo in konqueror after doing an update to 12.3 RC2 from 12.2 and I lost the ability to use sysinfo from konqueror anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

IIRC sysinfo:/ is deprecated and will be replaced by (IMHO much better) kinfocentre. If you create a new user account, login as that user, you’ll see that the shortcut to “konqueror sysinfo:/” has been replaced by one to kinfocentre.

I am not keen on kinfocentre and much prefer kio-sysinfo. Luckily I have still got the rpm’s for sysinfo from the beta release (before it was dropped and replaced b kinocentre).

you can still get the two rpm’s for sysinfo (that work with opensuse 12.3) from this repo:

Index of /factory-tested/repo/oss/suse

you need:

kio_sysinfo

&

kio_sysinfo-branding-opensuse

thanks!!! I realized my “My computer” had disappeared after the update but did not notice the kinfocenter as I usually look at my desktop from a drop down folder view on my panel.

Thanks for the tip - I much prefer sysinfo. It needs Konqueror now instead of Dolphin, but no problemo.

It always has. sysinfo:/ never worked on Dolphin, just on Konqueror.

Wow, I need to get some new spectacles :frowning:

The new KInfocenter is pretty accurate but it is not really a replacement for sysinfo, they should have let both coexist.
I try to get sysinfo running again on 12.3, KInfocenter cant even mount harddiscs or show available space on harddiscs on one screen when opening it.
it dosent even show operating system version or how much ram is used at moment. Worst program ever, thanks KDE!

Looks like kio_sysinfo has been disappeared. kio_sysinfo-branding-opensuse is still there, but doesn’t install:

nothing provides branding-basedonopensuse needed by kio_sysinfo-branding-basedonopensuse-12.3-1.10.x86_64

Anybody have other links for these?

Never mind, found kio_sysinfo in openSUSE BuildService - KDE:Extra for released 12.3. kio_sysinfo-branding-opensuse isn’t needed, just browse to sysinfo:/ in Konqueror after installing kio_sysinfo.

branding-basedonsuse is not the same as branding-openSUSE

You can create a shortcut on your desktop, by right-clicking and choosing “Create new”->“Link to Location (URL)…” then enter a name of your choice as “File name”, for “Enter link to location (URL)” enter “sysinfo:/”.

has inxi been tried for system information

cmd
inxi -F

People, this thread is about 12.3 BETA version, which was released as
stable ages ago. It is impossible that you are still using the 12.3
Beta (RC2).

Thus, please start a new thread for 13.1 Beta, or a new thread in one of
the standard 12.3 forums.
