I would like to install the full texlive package on my network server, while on my desktop PC I would like to do only a nfs installation (both with 12.1 and yast). So far, this seems to be supported by the software package management.
Of course, I would like to use emacs+auctex on my desktop PC to latex documents, but when I try to install the auctex Package, I am forced to install texlive too, or otherwise break the dependencies, which I would like to avoid.
So how can I manage this?

I presume by installing emacs+auctex on the network server. AFAIK TeX and all its supporting programs work on the assumption that they are on a single system though I suspect you could change this by editing the paths in the collection of files.

editing paths shouldn’t be a problem but what do you mean with “collection of files”? Which collection?

I use TexLive with LyX and Kile; each of them expect a number of other programs beyond TexLive to be available in order to carry out particular functions; for example, you need a PDF viewer to view a PDF but, if you have a non-standard PDF viewer, you have to edit the configuration to tell the program which PDF viewer to use. These are not dependencies in the traditional sense but resources which can be used if they are available to the program.
I assume that, if I were to put TexLive on a server, I could edit the configuration file to point to a PDF viewer on the client but then everyone who used the network would be using the same PDF viewer on the client. So it would be more sensible to have the PDF viewer on the server. That was the analogy I was assuming in answering your query.
