Well, I deleted apper (couldn’t find the update_applet in yast) and no improvement. I will undertake the other suggestion in a week or so - other things to do, and I need a bit of a break from this…

My reasoning is a bit along different lines. Directory locks. Does not
mean that i have the right idea.
