11.4 Kernel Panic during bootup.

Hello all,

I have 5 day old install of 11.4, on my Dell Inspiron 7010 laptop. I put the laptop in hibernation this morning, and this evening revived it with a new wired network connection. I had no connectivity, so attempted to use the network manager to start a new connection. It seemed to obtain DHCP information, but I still had no connectivity, so I rebooted.

From both the standard bootup, and the failsafe, I receive an error, and kernel panic:

/sbin/init: error while loading shared libraries: /lib64/libpam.so.0: file too short
6.285745] Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

I managed to boot using the boot argument “init=/bin/sh”, but can’t figure out where to go from there. Yast wants a network connection to install the package (would that fix the bad file?), and I don’t quite know how to load the network card module, or start networking services.

I’m stuck on the road for a few days with no removable media… I thought about bringing the install DVD, but forgot to pack it.

Do I have any options, or will I have to wait until I get home from the road?

Thanks in advance,
John
