The 11.4 KDE live CD 64 bit and 32 bit fails at run level 5. The ATI card is a Radeon HD 6000 series. Screen is 1080P.
I haven’t tried 11.4 yet and am downloading it at present.
I couldn’t get the 11.4 rc2 live gnome to run on 2 of my machines, so gave up and waited for the final version.
Did you try setting the disply to vga in the boot options?
Never had the same problems running with 11.3 except the resolution was wrong.
I think they are trying to be too bleeding edge with 11.4 and missing the point that a live version should be capable of running on any hardware.
There is a known bug in 11.4 (that crept in between 11.4 RC1 and RC2) which impacts a number of Radeon users hardware (not all), and “nomodeset” (no quotes) as a boot code is necessary in order to boot. However that does not work for all.
I noticed in this thread: [SOLVED] No 3D with ATI and 11.4](http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/install-boot-login/455287-solved-no-3d-ati-11-4-a.html) that the user claimed for users with an R6xx/R7xx ATI card, if the system has 4 or more GB Ram, then adding the boot code “mem=3840M” (no quotes) to grub may work. I can’t verify that.
I tried each of the the following as boot options to the live disk:
vga-0x345 (This is the boot option from 11.3) result=fails
nomodeset; result=fails
mem=3840M result= The disk attempted to create a number of directories, but couldn’t because the disk is read only. I haven’t tried this with an actual install. Ultimately this fails in live.
Did you try the FailSafe settings on the liveCD ?
