serious bug: hutdown - but a subsequential poweroff is missing: . now i think about virtualbox

i have a notebook HP Notebook hp 14 r 103ng - see more below:

it does shutdown - but a subsequential poweroff is missing.

see more here: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/514101-leap-42-1-and-tumbleweed-shutdown-amp-turn-off-does-not-work-at-all-freezing-100

i guess that i have issues with this Bug https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109051#c434
der Shutdown-process runs - but only to a certain point there is no poweroff:

the notebook is this one HP Notebook hp 14 r 103ng

i found out that this behaviour is still the same in - opensuse leap 42.2

with kernel 4.4

which options do i have.

a. i can upgrade the kernel to the newest - to test if this behaviour change. - and that i have a shutdown and poweroff.
b. i can try to install opensuse 13.2 - which works well - with poweroff -

… and install a virtualbox - with opensuse 42.2

do you think that this is possible?

love to hear from you

greetings

Looking at the other post you linked to yes updating the bios might help with this problem.

There can be problems though as the new bios may change hardware level addresses. This may or may not be a problem and if it is the easiest remedy is probably a re install so that the hardware is detected again.

I have never had to upgrade bios but have read on HP’s site that some people have had to do this to fix various problems and noticed one instance where Linux couldn’t cope with one of the hardware address changes so that had to be done by hand. That is very probably not easy to do without a decent level of knowledge about this level of functionality.
