Hi,
I setup my evolution to get this forums news. (eg. threads and posts). However, I can’t get them because it give me this:
http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/8585/screenshotenterpassword.png
I keep entering my forum password over and over again but I can’t authenticate :S
And you might also need to check these:
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/7315/screenshotaccounteditor.png
http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/7315/screenshotaccounteditor.png
I have checked that but no luck so far. I can see how many unread messages, but I can’t see which messages they are. And sometimes, it crashes trying to fetch the messages. But still I have authentication problem.
Authentication is not required. Just ignore (as in disable) those bits when setting up.
In authentication settings, only option for authentication is “password”. I can’t find the no authentication option :S

You don’t need to use a password for NNTP access.
Some programs have been known to query the server and if it says
authentication is possible, it assumes that authentication is required.
That’s a bug (if that’s what’s happening here).

Hi
Don’t put a username in ‘Receiving Email’ just the server.

Just blank out the username option in the server setup. I just tried
that myself and it worked fine, no authentication requested.

and, in this screen:
http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/7315/screenshotaccounteditor.png
next to the “Password” is a little down arrow, spin it until something
like “None” or “None Required” or “Anonymous” comes up *, and
also UNcheck “Remember Password”

These are my current settings, I am getting an error saying that “Connection closed by remote host” (This is how I translated it from Turkish)

Hi
You haven’t set anything on the security tab?
nope, completely empty. I can access newsgroup via telnet and seamonkey, so it is clearly an evolution problem. I could use seamonkey instead but, I like evolution because of its calendar and task stuff so I don’t want to use 2 different applications. it could be awesome if we could solve this one.

At what point do you get the error?
Are you sure you have connectivity to the server (ie, NNTP isn’t blocked
by a firewall at your site)?
What do you get if you go to a terminal window and type:
telnet forums.opensuse.org 119
?

What version of Evo (and on what release of openSUSE) are you using?

I sent bug report to gnome bugzilla, maybe it would resolve this.
I found out that nntp server of opensuse forums doesn’t accept over command but instead accepts xover command, so initial over command send to server breaks the connection. Can I see the output of your
CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution >& evo.log
So that I can compare to mine and try to see if there is a difference that I should be aware of.

That seems to be causing the problem - over is an invalid command on this
server.
I’d file a bug on this on bugzilla. The xover command does work, but it
seems that the version of evo that you’re using isn’t behaving correctly.
