Keyboard & mouse freezes

After update to kernel 2.6.34.4 my USB keyboard and mouse freezes after 2-3 second of inactivity. Using the mouse/keyboard for one to two seconds brings it back to life again, but it will freeze again. No problem in tty session, but the problem exists in the login screen. The problem only exists using USB keyboard/mouse.

KDE: 4.4.4 (KDE 4.4.4) “release 2”

Model: GeForce GT 240
2D-driver: nvidia
3D-driver: NVIDIA 256.53

When I first installed openSUSE 11.3, under the original kernel I also had system lock ups. After updating KDE to version 4.4.4 “release 8”, such issues seemed to go away for me. I also have upgraded to kernel 3.6.35.4 to fix some USB 3 issues, but the problem was gone with the KDE update, before the kernel update. I would first ask, what problems were you trying to solve by updating your kernel to version 2.6.35 and don’t you still have an option to load your older kernel from your grub menu?

Thank You,

The reason for updating is a Security Announcement, Announcement ID: SUSE-SA:2010:039, grub don’t offer the possibility to load the old kernel.

Similar story here : After upgrading to Linux 2.6.34.4-0.1-desktop x86_64 (it is a mandatory upgrade due to security fixes)
I ‘lost’ my Bluetooth Keyboard Logitech DiNovo Edge. What happens exactly is that, while I am at the login screen the keyboard
works, after login to KDE (4.4.4 (KDE 4.4.4) “release 2”) it works but after a few seconds of inactivity it stops working. Note
that the bluetooth pairing is happening with its dongle without any problem, but somehow it stops working.
My openSUSE is 11.3 (x86_64). Also if I disconnect, and the system goes back to the login screen my keyboard works again,
but after I login again, after a few seconds my keyboard stops working again.

Confirming.
Also had this problem after teh kernel update to 2.6.34.4 on a 32 bit system with KMS+Intel Video. No keybord of no mouse (both USB). I booted to level 3 where I could use the keyboard with no problem en downgraded the kernel back to 2.6.34 and the problem was gone.
My laptop (64 bit) did not have problems and also has external USB mouse and keyboard.

Some additional info: in my case my Logitech VX Nano Mouse works (this is also
a bluetooth-usb mouse), but my Logitech DiNovo Edge Keyboard does not.

Same here. It seems my laptop mouse and pointingstick works, but my Lenovo USB Keyboard with Trackpoint and Logitech Anywhere MX mouse freezes after a couple of seconds of inactivity.

Same problem here. Only keyboard disconnects. Other USB devices OK. Problem seen with both “default” and “desktop” kernels.

Reverting to kernel 2.6.34-12.3 solves problem.

openSUSE 11.3 x64
KDE 4.5.1
nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-default-256.53_k2.6.34.0_12-15.1.x86_64

Hi,
I have the same problem!! After updating today to kernel 2.6.34.4-0.1-desktop, my logitech keyboard and mouse freezes for some seconds every some seconds.
My environment: openSUSE 11.3 x64, gnome, ati radeon.
I have NO error on dmesg!!!
Max

My logitech illuminated kb, connected to a Belkin kvm switch, doesn’t freeze but lights off as soon as I stop typing (in both X and tty) … I still haven’t decided if it’s a bug or a feature.:\

So has anyone here attempted (or know how to, since I don’t know how either) to submit a bug report on this latest kernel update and the problems it seems to have caused? Do we have a volunteer here?

Thank You,

I just did. Please see Access Denied
This is very annoying. Hope this gets fixed right away.

Same problem (USB keyboard only, USB mouse not affected) on my 32-Bit hp-laptop. A really nasty ‘security’ update, took me 3 hours to recover… IMHO the maintainers should withdraw the update.

In my case at least, it looks like the problem was caused by the nvidia driver rpms from nvidia repository. Not surprising actually since it was built for the old kernel.

After uninstalling nvidia rpms and installing nvidia driver from
Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
the problem seems to be gone.

hmmh…strange

I finally decided it was a bug (by nightl!) and downgraded to 2.6.34-12.3. It solved the problem.

I’m not good at that … Please, someone !
Thank You.

Sorry, I didn’t see your post. Thanks!

Have you seen/tried that workaround (copy/paste from comment in bug report) :

A Japanese user reported the problem which looks like this.
His analysis is that it was caused by USB auto-suspend function.

He said that the workaround of this is to disable the auto-suspend:

“echo -1 > /sys/bus/usb/devices/?-?/power/autosuspend” (from root user)
where “?-?” is the USB device number (can be found by comparing ‘lsusb’ output
with idVendor/idProduct file under “/sys/bus/usb/devices/?-?” directory).

He reported that this problem occurs at Lenovo USB Trackpoint keyboard.
Logitech G700 mouse does not occur (no freeze).

I have tried that and it works for me.

I also have the Nvidia drivers from repository (graphics and sound), but have not tried updating them yet, as the usb workaround worked.
