Gnome 3 & 11.4 Known Issues & Workarounds

Hmm, still cant get my Yast back, it is in Alacarte, I have removed the settings classification from Yast.desktop file, rebooted. No yast to be seen anywhere.
Can always use text mode yast if I’m really stuck I suppose …
Should I be able to run yast2 from terminal by just typing yast2?
This is what I get when I do try that ( as root)

]GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)
/sbin/yast2: line 423: 7897 Aborted $y2ccbin $Y2UI_ARGS “$@”

Hi
OK, I’ve got the user-theme extension working, just need to sort out the ones that aren’t and then will package up as an rpm.

Installed your package successfully. Then installed a theme too but when click on** revert ** nothing happens.

Update : Did ALT+F2 then r. Back to the default theme.

Hi
Download the theme, eg in my case GNOME Shell Themes on #GNOME-Shell - deviantART

Now, open the gnome-tweak-tool -> shell and (1) browse to the (2) downloaded zip file and (3) open;

It doesn’t show the loaded them yet (my red circle) don’t press revert, just close the tweak tool.

Now bring up Looking Glass (alt+F2 lg <press enter>) and on the errors view you will see it load;

You may also need to restart the shell, (alt+F2 r <press enter>)

@LuisC-SM for 11.4 :wink:

I can see visual changes as soon as I load the them in gnome-tweak-tool but it just shows as none.

Opened the errors page …yes it shows it loading

Did ALT+F2 r

But the gnome-tweak-tool shows “none”

Hi
Yes it does and will for the moment… to be fixed will look at next week with gnome developers. You should have noticed the changes?

Which theme did you load? Do you have a link?

Yes I see the changes. I installed this one

But one thing, this menu on the right of my screen, is there a way to get rid of it ?

Hi
Not at present, what I think needs to happen is make the extensions as sub packages so you can pick and choose… need to talk to the developers after the weekend and see what they want to do…

Okay. No problem. Great work.

@Malcolm:

Great work! Thanks so much for all your explanations.

What I still don’t understand is… what can I do with the looking glass when I don’t know anything about java?

Regards

Luis
