I have been using Linux since 2000 and have used it on many architectures including x86, x86_64, PPC, and SPARC. I first used Suse around 2002-ish but was away from it for a long time and have gotten back into it. I’ve run many linuces including Debian, Yellowdog, LFS, Gentoo, Ubuntu, CentOS, and OpenSUSE.

For me, Linux is a reflection of my values and way of life, which emphasizes frugality, efficiency, and communal resources. Other things I enjoy include plant ecology and birdwatching, cooking, gardening, and energy-efficiency upgrades to buildings. I am a staunch advocate of designing communities to be walkable and have good access to public transit and bicyclists.

I am a systems thinker, and politically, I value small government and markets while supporting progressive taxation and shared resources, which puts me at odds with both traditional left and right. I am skeptical of concentration of power anywhere, whether in the hands of government or wealthy individuals. I also think governments could save great amounts of money by using open source software in all but a few cases.
