zypper up vs zypper dup ?

I’m running oSUSE 11.2 x64 KDE 4.4 and have the Factory KDE repos enabled obviously.

Up till now I’ve been running ‘zypper up’ to update packages…if I now do a ‘zypper dup’ for dist upgrade, it was to reinstall a few packages, downgrade like 146 pkgs, and upgrade a few…

What is it doing here? and should I do it? :open_mouth:

I prefer the switcher for the kde repo. Like this
ImageBam - Fast, Free Image Hosting and Photo Sharing

Lastly you should do it on packman if you didn’t do this already

FYI
Zypper/Usage/11.2 - openSUSE

Thanks caf…it’s great having someone across the pond when I keep these hours here in Florida  I’ll look all that over…still learning the Suse way of things.

EDIT: I don’t have kde desktop enabled, just the factory KDE4 repo’s I used to go up to 4.4…sorry, trying to figure out what is going on here…

Chill man
I see it’s cold there - again!
Not good for those Strawberries!

I hear ya…my aunt lives in Plant City…this weather is crazy…

Reminds me of those big feezes in the 80’s

Hey Caf…I’m back… How do I get to the place in your first post in this thread with 11.3 gnome? thanks for catching me up !!

Well actually in 11.3 Gnome has added this switcher feature:
For Eg: ImageBam - Fast, Free Image Hosting and Photo Sharing

And this: Some Gnome Software Manager info for 11.3

Otherwise you can still switch to QT: Switch Yast Interface to QT

thanks for the refresher…can you help with getting mp4 playback again? I’m rusty…I basically want to install all the codecs…I’ve already got libdvdcss…thanks

Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide

If you use gnome, I recently found I had to allow deletion of ‘transmission-common’ to get the switch.

thanks caf…helps a lot…I’m a little rusty…thought I’d give gnome a shot this time

Just bump me if you run in to trouble.
I’m here on and off all day.
