Zypper up - The following package updates will NOT be installed:

There’s lots of packages that aren’t going to get updated on my machine, I’d like to know what I’ve got to do to get things updating normally again - I know this has to do with the amount of useless repos I’ve added.

You should remove repo #1 and 2
They are not needed.
Only having had them may prove problematic.
See this guide:
Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE Forums

Once you remove those - try this:

Thanks for the reply, I’ve removed or disabled all those unnecessary repos.
How do you do that changeover of repos in Gnome, or preferably in the terminal?? I can’t seem to find that same option to switch system packages. When i do a zypper up now there’s still not much to update.

Do this

Try Yast again

sorry we must have replied at the same time - thanks for your speedy response!!!

ok so i’ve figured out how to do this from the command line, i’d much prefer this anyway, just need some assurance I’ve done this ok, for the packages where i’ve kept the obsolete RPM I’m guessing they’ll never get upgraded? This may not be so good? can I do another zypper dup -r to another repo if need be??

To be honest I think you will be better going via YaST

Some users get in this mess and have to literally go thru it almost one package at a time and use the version radio switch tab view like this:
ImageBam - Fast, Free Image Hosting and Photo Sharing

You have a great number of packages from Videolan and the choices you have made in that list look OK’ish
You could run it and then go back and do as I suggest with the radio switch.
