It seems to get through our proxy fine, but… is something wrong with the repo? I keep getting these a/r/i/? faults…

That file doesn’t exist. Stale cache? Are you sure that you refreshed your repos first, before updating?

Thank you very much. I didn’t try clean. I get this with YaST also, and the repos all look right… tried rpm --rebuilddb

Ah, it looks like zypper clean helped but it’s still not finding everything it seems to want to find… but at least it seems to be doing most of them now, unlike just doing 15 or so previously, then quitting. Odd, but I guess it’s doing what I need - patching.

Apparently YaST is still trying to download nonexistent packages. Maybe it’s because, on a whim, I also installed Gnome desktop environment? I’ve never done that before. What’s a zypper command to remove the Gnome desktop? Seems odd that it won’t install openJDK headless…

Looking via Yast I see those packages and they list from openSUSE repo

Are you sure you have correct URLs zypper lr -d will show the URLS

Thank you very much for the reply. Zypper downloaded and installed all but 4 or 5 patches, but every time I run it, it wants to install the same patches. Odd. maybe it’s failing because I hit “ignore” for those 4 or 5 patches? The console shows that the patches are being “downloaded” and “applied.”

Thank you very much for the reply. I keep retrying and getting the same set of errors (on the same 5 patches), while it “downloads” and “applies” about 855 patches, apparently successfully.
Then, when I rerun zypper update or zypper patch, shouldn’t it say that there are only those 5 left, rather than offering to download/apply all 860 of them again?

This is what makes me think I’m missing something deeper…

Apper finally told me there were updates, which I told to install - it threw an error:

Download (curl) error for ‘http://download.opensuse.org/update/13.1/noarch/kdeartwork4-wallpapers-4.11.5-143.11.noarch.rpm’:

My proxy in YaST and command line are set up correctly, or else I could not download and install all those other packages. :frowning:

YaST refuses to only download a single package. Lots of errors (missing packages). Tried zypper. Something is way broke. Time to reinstall, I guess… :frowning:

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. When I navigate to that page, the file is there for me. Something is up with the proxy…

Can you view the file-lists from a browser okay?

Maybe the rpm database is broken, so it thinks that nothing was
installed. You could try “rpm --rebuilddb” (the option is missing in the
man page, though. I know it exists, but I could not find the syntax for
you).

Maybe this does not solve the 5’s problem, but does the 855’s :slight_smile:

If it doesn’t, then we have to look at the zypper/yast logs with some care.

Yes, everything seems perfectly normal in terms of the operation of curl, and zypper/YaST, except for (1) those 5 packages, and (2) the fact that it doesn’t seem to remember having installed the remaining patches. I agree, there is something up with the proxy, but that’s the only place it’s manifest.

Thank you! Yes, I had tried rpm --rebuilddb and zypper clean and zypper refresh. Everything acts normally. I also checked the DVD I installed from. So I guess I’ll try a reinstall of / at this point (and retain /home).

OK - reinstall gives same results. Does this YaST Proxy error with “test proxy settings” tell anyone anything? Mind you, everything seems to work OK except for those 5 packages and zypper always forgetting that it has applie 800+ patches. (I have two machines feeding into a single router => LAN)

After 1st install, YaST online update “remembers” that it installed the zypper patches, then gives me all the other patches. I select all those to install, and it chokes on that kdeartwork4-wallpapers package. Could there be proxy filtering for something specific as a file?

UPDATE: I have an identical 12.3 box sitting right next to the 13.1 box, same proxy settings (in YaST) and it reports correct operation of the proxy settings. This pretty clearly indicates a heretofore undetected problem when the proxy subsystem was updated from 12.3 => 13.1 by the OS folks. I need to install patches, so I guess I will now install 12.3, unless you want me to help debug this issue in 13.1…

How did you do the update?

Before the reinstall, tried:
YaST Online Update (throws the above proxy bomb)
rpm --rebuilddb
zypper clean (claims to run successfully)
zypper refresh (claims repos are refreshed)
zypper patch
zypper update

All fail on the above 5 packages. YaST Online Update quits early (it had previously installed the zypper-specific updates normally). zypper patch or zypper update both install ~850 updates (all except the 5 are “Applied” per the output of Konsole) but then if I rerun zypper update or zypper patch, all 850 are listed as still being needed, even following a reboot. I have to choose “i” (ignore) for the 5 failing packages to get this from zypper patch or zypper update.
