Zypper error mesage

Hi I have openSUSE 11.4 + Gnome standard

I’m trying to update to newer packages in the 11.4 Updates repo using this command:

zypper up --repo 'Updates for openSUSE 11.4 11.4-0'

I get this response, note the error message:

linux-asyc:/home/john # zypper up --repo ‘Updates for openSUSE 11.4 11.4-0’
**
GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)
Loading repository data…
Reading installed packages…

The following package is going to be upgraded:
postfix

1 package to upgrade.

Can you explain the error message and/or tell me how to fix it.

Thanks

I cannot explain the error message, but if you used su before use “su -”
instead as proposed here
http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-bugs/2011-02/msg03456.html
(last line).

Hi John. Its a known bug apparently. Have a read of this thread. (Some links to bug report provided there). There is a workaround to use ‘su -’ then ‘zypper up’. (As I see martin_helm has explained already).

Yes I did use “su” not “su -” so I switched and all is good. Thanks guys

inux-asyc:/home/john # zypper up --repo 'Updates for openSUSE 11.4 11.4-0'

Sorry for the late response but this problem we had faced again in older threads
Read this
[Bug 672793] New: GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: a](http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-bugs/2011-02/msg03139.html)

Hehe, that is an old one isn’t it? Still not having that habit in your fingers?

This problem based on repos’ URLs.

It’s my youthful impulsiveness, don’t get time to remember.

Please explain what you mean.

You completely missed my remark. It was about the “su” vs. “su -” (as you could have seen from the quote I put before my remark). Not about the original problem.

As I remember this problem(bug) with glib error I had faced it in a old thread. Now I remember that this problem had been solved with a update. Anyway this problem I have faced again and I had given the same link [Bug 672793] New: GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: a](http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-bugs/2011-02/msg03139.html)

What do you mean about that? That was a su problem? Explain to me.

This problem based on repos’ URLs.

then you said this to explain:

As I remember this problem(bug) with glib error I had faced it in a old thread. Now I remember that this problem had been solved with a update. Anyway this problem I have faced again and I had given the same link [Bug 672793] New: GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: a

I don’t understand how your second statement relates to “a problem based on repo’s URLs”, please explain what you mean.

If I remember correctly this problem was solved in Greek forum with changing of URL of update repo. And in English forum with a patch update because there were all repos with this error, except update repo. Sorry for confusion.

Please reread post#7 above. There you quote me from post #6 where I comment on something Swerdna says. Your comment on this quote in post #7 has no relation to what I said to Swerdna. And Swerdna rightly asks you to explain that in his post #9.

I repeat, you seem not to understand what I was saying to Swerdna. That is not a problem at all (as long as Swerdna understands, which he proves in post#8), but why do you comment on it then? The only comment one could expect in such a case is asking for clarification. Not saying something about repos when I say something about “su” vs. “su -”, there is no connection between those two subjects.
