zypper dup immediatelly after installation - 13.1

Hi all,

I have just installed openSUSE 13.1, and ran

zypper ref && zypper up

After a reboot (new kernel), I ran

zypper dup

to see what it would show me.

To my surprise, the system told me that there were some available updates. How is this possible, since zypper dup syncs with the repos, and this is a fresh installation?

zypper -vv dup -D

Those are no updates, since you haven’t had them installed before. Those are new packages.
They are recommended only, and most of them are from the Non-OSS repo (that’s why they haven’t been installed before).

I have no idea, why “zypper up” didn’t want to install them, but at least “zypper in” should.
Unless you have turned off the installation of recommended packages of course. There’s a switch in YaST and in /etc/zypp/zypp(er).conf .

You rock! By default, installRecommends is set to “yes” in /etc/zypp/zypper.conf. After setting it to “no”, the new packages disappeared.

Thanks. :slight_smile:
