ZoneMinder

Are there any repos or binaries for opensuse v11??

TIA

Luis

Try this search:
Webpin search for zoneminder

Hi,

openSuSE does not contain full multimedia support (for example ffmpeg is missing) therefor two versions of the RPM exists: ZoneMinder and ZoneMinder-MP. ZoneMinder-MP is build against ffmpeg (from the packman repository) and the other one only requires the official openSuSE packages. Especially when you require mpeg streaming you should use the MP version.

You can find both Versions in the following repository Index of /pub/suse/repositories/11.0 or in the OBS Software.openSUSE.org

For more information read the wiki page ZoneMinder: Linux Video Camera and CCTV Security with Motion Detection which explains step by step the installation and provides one click install ability for both versions.

It is highly recommended to install the latest online update kernel via “you” as v4l was broken in the initial openSuSE 11 kernel.

One last hint: because of a bug in firefox 3 it is not recommended to use ff3 for ZoneMinder camera streams. But the rest should work as expected.

@oldcpu
Thanks for your help and “always accurate way” to teach me something new. (Webpin search for X package is something new for me) :slight_smile:

@Monex
Thanks a lot for your help and valuable comments.
It’s very strange that I have missed the opensuse wikki as I’m a ZM user since v1.22.1 in Mandriva.
I hope that if I get stack with install/use, you can provide with some useful hints.
Regarding FF3, yes!, Ive seen this problem also in Mandy and I had to switch to Epiphany (sometimes opera 9.x works just fine).

It is highly recommended to install the latest online update kernel via “you” as v4l was broken in the initial openSuSE 11 kernel.

This I don’t get it very well as uname -a is reporting this:

Linux Toshiba-p105 2.6.25.11-0.1-pae #1 SMP 2008-07-13 20:48:28 +0200 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

and my webcam is also working just fine… Could you please clarify this a little bit?

Thanks a lot and kind regards

Luis C.

Hi,

only kernel versions < 2.6.25.7 were effected (the initial kernel of openSuSE was 2.6.25.5 as far as I know) which caused ugly freezes as reported here :frowning:

Not only suse was affected also all other distributions. Problem is fixed know (via online update) and with your kernel you should not encounter this problem.

hope this helps

Ok.
All is clear now :slight_smile:

Thanks so much for your info and Kind Regards

Luis
