Here’s a typical log message that I was seeing:
2023-07-04T12:00:25.776584-05:00 nwr2 /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[2378]: (EE) event2 - Dell Dell USB Keyboard: client bug: event processing lagging behind by 39ms, your system is too slow
This was on a computer purchased around 11 years ago.
So I bought a new system. Okay, that wasn’t the reason for buying a new system.
On the new system, I am seeing:
2023-07-06T08:49:25.153621-05:00 nwrdell /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[2498]: (EE) event1 - LITEON Dell Wireless Device: client bug: event processing lagging behind by 37ms, your system is too slow
I guess some things just don’t change.
That “Dell Wireless Device” is the nano-receiver from a Dell Wireless keyboard and mouse. So perhaps this is an issue with Dell keyboards. Or perhaps GDM is being too fussy in reporting this. Either way, I am just ignoring those messages
By the way, I bought the new computer because the old one was getting old. And these things have a limited life. I’m still using the old one as the home network server.
The newer computer has 16G of memory (the old one had 8G). And the new one has an NVME drive, which does seem a lot faster than the old rotating drive. The new computer came with Windows 11, but I have nuked that. The older computer has Windows 8.1, which I did not much use. I’ll probably nuke that, too, to give more disk space for the home network server.
