you know

screw it i think i’ll just install wine already

you can download demos on it right? like modern warfare 2 and left 4 dead and idk crysis or whatever is nice these days?

just didnt want to mess with it, but might as well utilize this thing i think

any help with the download and installation?

i run opensuse 11.0

if reinstalling ubuntu over it would work better, ill do that, but i heard you need to download it, then burn it to a disk, then install it, dont have a burner on this thing, or maybe i do, but no blank disks

also, when you install linux, are you supposed to hit esc to delete the previous partition like you do with windows? I actually just found out you are supposed to do that

Why not just dual boot? Create a nice sized partition for it and install. Then install openSUSE on the unpartitioned space. It will setup the dual boot for you. Then you have the best of both worlds. Many of us dual boot.

lol

do you know how to do any of this stuff we’re talking about?

im clueless

thanks

For dual-boot installation, have a look at these links:

Dual boot: openSUSE 11.2 installation with Windows 7 - openSUSE Forums

openSUSE installation guide

If you have further questions, ask away.

before i go through with that, I wanted to ask if i should absolutely install ubuntu or if it’s possible to just go ahead and install wine on opensuse

it would work about the same right?

You can install Wine in openSUSE. This will never make it a windu machine without windows. To play games, you need a 3D graphics capable card and installed driver.
To get answers, you’ll have to learn to describe what you want to achieve, make clear titles for new threads. This way you will not find the support you’re looking for, since nobody knows what that would be.

my graphics card is nvidia

i have no idea if the drivers are installed

i really only wanted to download like a modern warfare 2 demo, a left 4 dead demo, and maybe a bioshock demo

i know this thing won't be windows

any commands I can enter that will help describe my system to you?

i only assumed ubuntu would work better

btw i just now realized that i didn’t look at those links because i dont have windows 7, and since opensuse has already been installed i dont see a need to look at an opensuse installation

i have gparted downloaded but dont know how to use it, i want to delete the windows partition on here i dont use at all, and it sucks

also, i would just need an installation guide for ubuntu

but mainly i just wanted to access wine, if it’s possible on opensuse on a practical level i dont see a problem with that
thanks

lol i just figured out my ifconfig

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0C:6E:50:90:5B

lmao i know that isnt going to help with any of the questions you have for me, but still it’s funny because i didnt know i needed to use the root su - just to get ifconfig to work, and i guess for most things i need to be in root
class c address

i should ping loopback but OBVIOUSLY i wouldnt be on the internet if my connectivity was down
