The “antenna thingy” that came with your
ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming WiFi
motherboard is an external Wi-Fi 6E antenna. Its purpose is to provide your computer with wireless network connectivity (both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) and to enhance the signal strength and speed of that connection.
Purpose and Features

Wireless Connectivity: The motherboard has built-in Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth capabilities, but it requires this external antenna to transmit and receive the necessary radio signals effectively. Without it, you may experience very poor or no wireless connectivity.
Enhanced Signal: The antenna has two built-in transmitters and receivers, which help to boost the signal strength and stability, reducing interference and potential disconnections.
Tri-Band Support: It supports three frequency bands: 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and the newer 6 GHz band (for Wi-Fi 6E), which offers more bandwidth and lower latency.
Adjustable and Magnetic Design: The antenna typically features a magnetic base, allowing you to secure it to a metal part of your PC case (top or side) for optimal signal reception. It is also adjustable, so you can position it in different directions.

Installation
You should connect the antenna to the two corresponding gold-plated RP-SMA antenna ports on the rear I/O panel of your motherboard. Once connected, you can place the magnetic base on top of your case or in another convenient location to get the best signal possible.

I told me exactly what I wanted to know too.

  1. That assumes the computer case is steel/magnetic and
  2. Hopefully the user doesn’t have any rotating disks close by…

Actually I was referring to the cheeky way it threw the phrase “antenna thingy” back at me. It obviously knew what I was talking about and didn’t need to put it that way so I thought that was cool.

Uhm, sorry. AI doesn’t “know” anything. It’s just repeating your terms since it’s programmed to make a “human” impression. Funny thing, I just tested it myself out of annoyance. I asked it “Who is the jerk in that certain commercial?” It came back with something like “… an actor doing humorous things, often called ‘the jerk’. …” Ha, cookies deleted, same question with “the guy”. All of the sudden, there was no “jerk” anymore and a different reply. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Yeah, but it did such a good job of it.
