You (Admin) have not administartor privileges to compelete this operation

Hello,
I am trying to install OpenSUSE 12.1 on my Thinkpad T510. I currently have Windows 7 Professional installed on it and I want to replace it with OpenSUSE 12.1.
When I am trying to install, the installer is exiting with “You (Admin) have not administartor privileges to compelete this operation.”
I was running OpenSUSE12_2_LOCAL.exe as administrator.

Appreciate any help in resolving this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Sreeni

Don’t use the .exe installer

Boot the DVD or CD. You have to set this in your BIOS

Probably nobody here uses that method, it is probably broken. Boot from the
DVD, as caf4926 told you. However, if you want to know why your method
doesn’t work, you will have to ask the people that packaged it. Try the
mail list.

If you logged in as an administrator, then in Windows 7, you still might not have administrator privileges.

You need to right click on the start-menu entry for command prompt, and select “Run as Administrator”. Then you will have the needed permissions (within that command prompt session).

I do not know whether that way of installing actually works. I have not tried it, and consider it risky. As other have said, it is best to boot the DVD and install from there.

Possible, yes.

Or right click on the command, then select run as administrator - I think.

Thank you for all your responses. I was able to get pass that and start the installation by booting from DVD. After the installation, it started rebooting and then the screen froze. How do I proceed now?

Thanks,
Sreeni

A bug causes this with some graphics cards
Leave it
Then force a reboot

You may need to boot with failsafe until you install the graphics driver

Leave it
I mean 10 mins,no more

I left it more than 10 minutes. When I started installation, I noticed that the resolution was set to 800X600. The display has a max resolution of 1920X1280. Not sure if that has anything to do with this. As soon as the reboot starts, the display comes with 4 thick horizontal lines and a few thin horizontal lines in between each. I tried installing twice and it froze at the same point both times.

Try adding nomodeset or use the Failsafe option

Competed installation successfully. Thanks for all your help.

Hey Shreeni,

Saw the specs of the Thinkpad T510, it says the laptop has an NVIDIA Optimus card. AFAIK the NVIDIA driver should be used for these cards to get the full blast out of them.
